How To Create A Website That Works!

November 7, 2011

Win a Ticket to a Business Transformation Workshop Or One-month’s Online Marketing Coaching Programme with Gail Powell (Worth over £200!) Enter here>>>

Gail Powell, solopreneur & advertiser on South Yorkshire What’s On 4 Me, has shared with us her ‘Top Tips’ in creating a website that will attract more clients & customers …and more business!

The biggest single mistake that many small businesses owners make when creating a website is the ‘build it and they will come syndrome!’ Many believe a presence on the web is all that is needed to get business to come pouring in, but when this does not happen many are left wondering what is wrong with their website.

‘I just don’t understand it!’ I hear on a regular basis ‘I have made sure that my site looks good and there are details about me; my qualifications, my email and telephone number, but still I am not getting any business from my site?’

If this sounds familiar then you have what is called a ‘store front’ website. It looks great but the only way to access you is to either call you or email something many potential customers or clients will not do from a first, second or often even a third visit.

So how do you create a website that works?

  • Firstly, you need to make it easy for people to find out about you and your services
  • Then you need to offer a solution to their problem without them first having to call you
  • You then need to create a very easy first step to access you passively
  • Then grow multiple relationships over time so you are ready to sell to your customer when they are ready to buy

The right website leads visitors to action and allows your potential client to access you passively and in their own time.

There are very simple and easy steps to take to ensure that your web-site really works for you.

What do you need to do?

  • Provide a CHOICE of ways to access YOU
  • Not expect visitors to pick up a phone or email in the first instance
  • Make it easy for your visitors ACT passively
  • Let them get to know you from a distance
  • Invest in your relationship with your customers
  • And then… the sales will come pouring in.

If you want to know EXACTLY how to apply these very easy steps to your website and get more customers or clients then go to – www.thesolopreneur.co.uk and download Gail’s free audio tips.

Also, don’t forget to enter our competition on What’s On 4 Me before the 12th November 2011 to win a place on Gail’s half day Business Transformation Workshop where you will learn all the top tips first hand leaving with a step-by-step guide on how to get a website that really works for your business; increasing both your sales and income.

“Welcome to What’s On 4 Me”…

May 3, 2011

Well, I’m not normally a very creative type, but I have to give myself a pat on the back for this one!

I wanted to create a short video clip to give a flavour of “What’s On 4 Me” (www.whatson4me.co.uk) and the listings we promote – to inspire our visitors!  It’s not 100%, but it’s a big step on the road there!

I’d love to know what you think…!

Wow what a 6 months it’s been!!

April 13, 2011

Wow what a 6 months it’s been!!

If you asked me this time last year where my life would be now, I think I’d have probably said I’d be doing the same old job, with the same old people, and doing the same old things in my spare time. In short, I was BORED!! I was looking for a new challenge and a chance to get more involved in my local community.

When I discovered What’s On 4 Me last Autumn I became really excited by the possibilities and realised it was exactly what I was looking for. It was a chance to run my own business putting all my experience into a venture I felt passionate about and a chance to work with some fabulous and inspirational women.

When I signed the franchise contract for What’s On 4 Me Bristol & Somerset on 1 November 2010 it was one of the best moments of my life, and I had no idea at that time, that I was going to experience many more highlights over the next few months!! Don’t get me wrong, it’s been hard work, with mistakes made and lessons learnt along the way but now that the site is firmly established in the local community, with visitor and advertiser numbers increasing every day, I have never enjoyed “work” so much!

I’ve lived in Bath since September 2000 and I thought I knew the Bristol & Somerset region well. How wrong I was!!! There is so much more to do in our region than I thought possible!! One night you could be at an adult learning class getting help with developing your first novel, the next you could be learning how to Tribal Bellydance, and at the weekend you could be heading to a Medieval Banquet!!

What’s On 4 Me is giving me a whole new world to discover and the best bit is, it’s all right on my doorstep!

LIVE Webinar! You live and learn :)

April 4, 2011

Have you ever presented LIVE across the t’internet?  Well I did last month and it was probably one of the scariest and weirdest things I have ever done!

Of course I was presenting from the comfort of my own home, to a web camera, but I was constantly aware that there were people across the UK watching my every move!  And I could see people joining and the “room” getting steadily busier!

It was pretty nerve-wracking if I’m honest, as most things new that you do are!  But when I watched it back it wasn’t particularly bad – and me being my worst critic would have told myself so too!

I’m by no means an expert, but if you have a LIVE webinar coming up and would like some advice then feel free to give me a shout.  They’re pretty easy to set up and I would be more than happy to let you know what I learned from the experience!

If you are interested in viewing the LIVE presentation, then you can do so here and I’d love to hear your views!  You live and learn and it’s not perfect, but it’s not the worst either – so leave a comment and let me know what you think! 🙂

The presentation describes all the benefits of What’s On 4 Me from a franchising perspective, so if that’s not your bag then just watch a little.  If it might be something that interests you, then who knows – this could be your first step to a new beginning!    As I said – you live and learn!!

South Yorkshire What’s On 4 Me has arrived!!

March 10, 2011

Another Franchise has been sold in the South Yorkshire region and Bev O’Sullivan is the very proud owner!  Bev brings Travel and Tourism experience and local business experience to the What’s On 4 Me Team – and you can read her biography on line on the South Yorkshire What’s On 4 Me site.

We’re very pleased to have another Franchise on board and Bev is working at tremendous speed and her website is almost 90% ready after only a few short hours of training – I have been astounded at how quick her web development has happened!

Good luck to Bev and her partner Brian who is fully on board too with the South Yorkshire Franchise and we’ll all be keeping an eye on developments in the region!

Wow – where has 2010 gone?

December 28, 2010

Wow – where has 2010 gone? This year has been such a busy year – all in great ways – but the time has just flown!

On a business front, I began 2010 pursuing a new business idea – whatson4me. This idea quickly gathered momentum and gained local business support. Before I knew it I became the Master Franchisee for the UK for whatson4me.co.uk!

The starting of a new business has been an absolute thrill – much better than I ever anticipated. Besides my personal satisfaction, I was rewarded by, would you believe it – winning business awards!! Who’d have thought, so early on!

Sometimes I think that I’m very lucky…but as a great man once said “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” I was very prepared to meet the challenges and I’ve continued in this vain and the business has gone from strength to strength. This really sets the groundwork for 2011, so I can’t wait to get going again to see what the New Year brings!!

We’ve also had a busy social calendar too. 2010 has been a year of family weddings, funerals, christenings and big birthdays. We’ve also had our fair share of fancy dress parties (which seem to be all the rage now!) and awards ceremonies and a whole variety of other weekends (races, boxing, etc).

It has to be said, we’re normally busy, so this has been no great demand on us – but we’ve been in social overdrive this year!! And our busy life didn’t seem to slow down till around the beginning of December! What a year on all fronts.

So, over the past few Festive days we have enjoyed a few days off with our family!

And on a family note, my two boys have grown up so much this year. My 4 year old is now at school and already knows everything! And my one year old is almost walking and talking!

Our Festive boys - Hamish & Theo

It’s also been great to have our family over from America. We miss them so much and our boys relish seeing their only grandparents, so it was brilliant to have them stay for the Christmas period.

So, all in all – 2010 has been one very busy year!!

Something has to give though – and in such a busy year the thing that has fallen by the way side this year is work on our house! We normally have several projects on the go, both inside and out, on every level from décor to construction.

However, this year, with the new business, busy family life and exceptionally busy social calendar, I’ve barely had time to start the vacuum!

Well that’s my excuse anyway! 😉

And so, now our thoughts turn to 2011…and if I could replicate 2010, then it will be an amazing year!

However, you have to shape your own destiny.  Things don’t happen by themselves.  You have to devise your plan and turn it into action!

So……I’m off to devise my plan of action!

I’ll be back shortly 🙂
