What’s On 4 brings you the opportunity to run your own work-from-home business with the Award Winning “junior” What’s On 4 websites and Baby Expo Events www.babyexpobabyshow.co.uk, www.whatson4littleones.co.uk, www.whatson4schoolkids.co.uk and www.whatson4kidsparties.co.uk

Franchise Profile (2)With recent news of childcare costs being prohibitive to mothers being able to go out to work, it will be welcome news to many mums that What’s On 4 have now launched their regional businesses for mums to work-from-home!  The opportunities are ideal for mums looking to get back into work and running a business from home.

Marilyn Bradshaw and Bev O’Sullivan are leading the way in creating flexible working opportunities for mums across the UK by expanding the very successful What’s On 4 brand of websites!

Our family of What’s On 4 websites has been bringing information about local activities, clubs, classes and events, catering for all age groups from newborns to over-60’s, for over seven years now, since their creation 7 years ago by What’s On 4 founder Sam Willoughby.

Now with over 75,000 visitors each month to our What’s On 4 sites, over 50,000 subscribers, and over 50,000 social media fans, these websites are immensely popular with adults, parents, grandparents and carers.  What’s more is that these businesses are about to be launched as regional businesses across the UK.

As working mums themselves, Marilyn and Bev understand the need for home-based business opportunities and this is a major driving force for them.  Marilyn has two boys under the age of six and in the past 2 years has already taken the UK by storm with What’s On 4 Me (www.whatson4me.co.uk) – the adult “arm” of the websites.  As Master Franchisee she has provided many mums with part-time, flexible working opportunities.

Baby Expo LogoMarilyn says “Being a mum and running a National business from home is the most perfect combination I could imagine.  Having already developed 12 local business owners across the UK for What’s On 4 Me I am completely driven to do the same for our What’s On 4 “Juniors” business. These opportunities give the flexible working arrangement that many families need these days.”

Joining forces with Bev O’Sullivan, mum of three children under 10, means that they can quickly expand the “Junior” websites www.whatson4littleones.co.uk, www.whatson4schoolkids.co.uk and www.whatson4kidsparties.co.uk, including the extremely successful and popular BabyExpo Events www.babyexpobabyshow.co.uk to create these desperately needed work-from-home opportunities.

Marilyn Accepting AwardBev says “Since coming on board with the What’s On 4 Team by running South Yorkshire What’s On 4 Me, my work life balance has changed dramatically for the better.  To now be able to run the children’s side of the business of What’s On 4 gives me the unique ability to also offer this lifestyle to others – and run a successful business.”

Marilyn and Bev have a wealth of business accolades between them including Awards for Best New Business Idea, North East Woman Entrepreneur Finalist and Best Brand Winner to name just a handful.

What’s On 4 “Juniors” will benefit from their combined entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen and drive the growth of the What’s On 4 family of websites across the UK – creating dozens of flexible work positions all across the UK.

Interest has already been registered for many of the local What’s On 4 business regions and discussions are underway with potential candidates.

Beware New Year Resolutions!

January 4, 2012

Beware New Year Resolutions!

If you are still trying to stick to yours, or still deciding whether you should set yourself one – a New Year Resolution that is…!  Read on for tips on how to plan to succeed with your goals from Lorraine Hall of Chiave Training & Development.

The New Year always brings out the need to make changes in our lives as part of the ‘New Year, New Me’ process and we avidly set about setting New Year resolutions.

Beware!

Resolutions are where we resolve to do things differently e.g. Stop smoking, lose weight, change career, but resolutions are not goals hence the lack of success in achieving the changes we want.

Part of the failure to achieve and fulfil our resolutions is due to too many big changes implemented in one go.

For example we resolve to be healthy and on the first of January we join a gym, give up chocolate, stop drinking and give up smoking. This really is the road to failure and you can guarantee you’ll be back on the booze with a cigarette in one hand and a chocolate in the other by midnight, resolutions out the window and the feeling of failure hanging over our heads like a huge cloud of doom.

So what can we do to change our health, life, career or any other aspect of our lives that isn’t what we want?

Here are some tips to help you make effective and long lasting change in your life.

1. Identify one thing that you really want to change

– to help you do this write down ten things you are aren’t happy with in your life, you may find some of these have the same theme, so group them in one category. Look at your list and number them in order of priority. Take the top three and decide which of these is the REAL priority.

2. The next stage is to decide when you will achieve it by

– Be REALISTIC. Losing a stone in 3 weeks is not realistic. Set a date that is realistic and achievable.

3. Visualise your situation having achieved your goal on the date you have given

– What does it look like? What does it feel like?

Allow yourself a few minutes to fully see and feel what achieving your goal is like.

4. Write your goal down and identify at least fifteen different actions which will help you

to achieve your goal – Write everything down that comes into your head, it doesn’t matter how ridiculous your ideas may seem, write them down.

5. At this point take a break

– do something different for five to ten minutes and then come back to your actions list.

6. Review your action list and identify 3 actions that you want to keep

– Cross out the other items and prioritise the actions you want to keep 1 – 3. These are the three actions you are going to implement into your life.

7. Implement your actions – Action 1: implement this week, decide on a date and time.

Action 2: implement within two weeks, decide on a date and time, and Action 3: implement within a month, decide on a date and time.

Setting small, measurable, achievable, realistic, timed (SMART) targets within a set time period will improve your chances of success.

8. You now have an action plan to be implemented over a short time period.

Your goal is clear and you have a clear vision of what the changes will look like by your achievement date.

9. Write it down – Write all the dates you have identified for implementing actions and your achievement date in your diary.

10. JDI – now you have an action plan Just Do It!

– On the way to achieving your goal life happens, small set backs will occur, that’s life.

Keep your visualisation of success at the forefront of your mind when the going gets tough.

If you want it, you can have it; it’s up to you to make the change.

Good luck!

Zumba Master Class with Jaime Farfan!

May 13, 2011

Jaime Farfan (ZES)

Well I’ve been along to maybe one hundred Zumba sessions now since my luring into the sport last Summer and yet my “Master Class” was a Zumba session with a difference!

The Internationally renowned Jaime Farfan, Zumba Educational Specialist (ZES) who travels the globe with the creator of Zumba “Beto Perez” held a Master Class at the Platinum Dance Studio and it was out of this world – on many levels…

Marilyn and Jaime Farfan

Even if you do not do Zumba, then imagine this….

– to be led, WITHOUT A SPOKEN WORD, for one and half hours, in the rhythms of dance;

– to dance all manner of dance style – latin, street, salsa, rumba, belly dancing to name a few;

– to dance with a leader of Zumba who travels with Beto Perez the creator of Zumba and to learn the moves which have stirred nations globally;

– (And for us with a pound or several to lose) around 700/900 calories per hour.

Create MORE “Me Time” – meet the Roomba…! (bang on trend for our What’s On 4 Me fans!)

May 11, 2011

Roomba by iRobot

What an absolute treat it was to review the Roomba by iRobot!

This certainly is a vaccum with a difference!! Yes…it made light work of the front  room…*yawn yawn*…yes it cleaned around all of the edges…*yawn yawn*…yes it tackled the tiles and hardwood floor…*yawn yawn*… Hmmmm – sounds just like any over vacuum….

HOWEVER… I watched this vacuum from the comfort of my own couch!!

*** See the full review and Marilyn’s video here ***

The Roomba even “magically knew” (obviously by some form of technology!) where the dirty areas were and zipped over to those pronto…!

It is so good that Kevin McCloud mentioned the Roomba in his presentation at Grand Designs at the weekend – So i’m not the only fan!!

I now NEED one  and everyone should have one, because not only does it DO THE WORK FOR YOU, you can even program it to vaccum on specific days and times, so your vacuuming will be done when you’re out!!

It’s the next best thing to having a cleaner and most definitely a product which genuinely gives you far more “Me Time”!

Well done iRobot – bang on trend for our What’s On 4 Me fans!

Spending our “Me Time” at Grand Designs LIVE London

May 9, 2011

We were invited by our special friend Rob at Media10 to come along to the Grand Designs LIVE London at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre in London and what a fantastic show it was.

Naomi Cleaver, George Clarke & my boys

All of the exhibitors brought inspiring ideas for the home and garden and more! Our boys were test-driving garden toys, playhouses, swings and garden beanbags.  We fawned over swimming pools, hot tubs, entertainment systems, glass houses, tree houses!  I meandered around the kitchen area, musing over equipment and out-of-this world technology, and then got “lost” in several demonstrations for juicing, mixing, chopping and peeling – coming home with a variety of eco-friendly and efficiency saving items for the kitchen!

The interior design area was simply stunning and was jam-packed with ideas for just about everything!  I could have shopped till the cows came home! The designs, the technology, lighting, colours, patterns, layouts, prints, photos, furniture, statues – there was just so much to choose from! :O

And, many people were carrying around their purchases – wooden giraffes, duck shaped lights, rugs – they possibly didn’t know that for a small fee for a VIP package they could’ve dropped their purchases off in the VIP lounge for safe keeping!

How good is that ladies?!?!  Shop and drop….shop and drop…! 🙂

John Burton-Race Restaurant on site

For lunch we had a tasty treat at John Burton-Race’s Restaurant.  It’s brilliant that in the middle of busy, bustling day you can escape the hoards and sample delicious cuisine at the venue.   We had beef carpaccio for starters and delicious lamb for main, and I have to say it was on par with John Christoff-Nouvelli’s restaurant at Grand Designs LIVE Birmingham which we sampled last year.  We feel the restaurants are a real highlight and a chance to sample amazing food, so I’m very much looking forward to next year’s guest chef!

Kevin McCloud and us

My husband, being an avid fan of Kevin McCloud’s Grand Designs and George Clarke’s Renovation Man, spent most of his day watching the presentations and seminars – joining in the discussions and sniggering at Kevin’s references to saucy behaviour that he sneaked into his presentation!  (I didn’t get the full gist of what it was but I’ll report back on that!)

So, after a glass of champagne which were also complimentary with the VIP tickets, we finished off our wonderful day and headed back.

One other great thing that I should mention about the show which I personally find brilliant is the layout! I lose my bearings regularly, so tend to get anxious in large stadiums and venues!  However, radiating from the centre there are several “avenues” to each of the show areas – you’re completely unable to get lost and I confidently navigated every area knowing exactly where I was! 🙂

Thank you to Rob at Media10 for inviting us and click here to see other National Events.

Lifestyle Change in Progress!!

May 5, 2011

We’re busy working on our May Edition of our What’s On 4 Me monthly (request one here), and we have a very inspiring section all about changing your lifestyle! It’s very informative and to be honest, whilst working on it’s really got me thinking too about what I can change in my life…

I know I shouldn’t get too involved in everything I read and edit on our site – as I’d be out dancing, walking, bingo-ing, rock-climbing, etc. day and night! – but I just can’t help the thoughts churning over with this one! And you see, I’m changing lots already….but I just don’t feel like I’ve quite really hit the heart of it yet….I still feel like I’m not 100% where I want to be, and I’ve just been prompted with this article to try to put my finger on what it was that was bothering me.

You see…I’m already on the case with losing weight – I’ve been doing that through ZUMBA (if you didn’t see me previous update I’ve dropped a dress size Woohoo!)…I’m currently studying, so I definitely don’t have time for a new course…we’ve done as much improvement work around the house as we can handle…

So…I was casting my eye a bit closer to home and….YES! it definitely has to be an image change!! Everything around me has been changing, but little ol’ me has been stuck in a bit of time warp! So it’s high time to get out of this Tardis and make a change.   Now I’m not sure where I’m going to go with this (or who is coming with me!), but there is definitely much room for improvement!

I’m not getting any younger, wrinkles are appearing on my wrinkles…I found my first grey hair a few weeks ago…some parts of my body migrated South for the Winter and never returned….SO – it’s time to take a good long look at my body, face, make-up, wardrobe and cast a brand new eye over it! BUT…where do I go for image advice? What’s the form these days?? Do we have consultants who can handle such a sizeable task? Or is it mums and friends still?

Where do you start? Who can be trusted to give a good opinion about a new direction – I don’t want to come out the other end looking like an 80’s version of myself! I’m open to suggestions here…where do I start??…

(May’s Special Update request – so you can be inspired too!)

“Welcome to What’s On 4 Me”…

May 3, 2011

Well, I’m not normally a very creative type, but I have to give myself a pat on the back for this one!

I wanted to create a short video clip to give a flavour of “What’s On 4 Me” (www.whatson4me.co.uk) and the listings we promote – to inspire our visitors!  It’s not 100%, but it’s a big step on the road there!

I’d love to know what you think…!

Drop a Dress Size with Zumba!!

April 27, 2011

As many of you will know I am a Zumba-addict and you’ll be excited to learn that through the magical power of Zumba I have dropped a dress size and thrown out all my size 16’s!!

I dug out my summer wardrobe last week and found that the linen trousers from last year were like clown pants!  So I raced through my wardrobe, trying everything on and found that I am now back down to a pre-pregnancy 14!

So I’ve decided to do a little research into why Zumba is so popular and why it has such an amazing effect on losing weight…

One of the primary reasons is because of its ability to help you lose weight in a way that isn’t boring!  Exercise is boring – but Zumba isn’t!  Beto Perez (the founder of Zumba) has revolutionized the cardio workout industry, simply by introducing what has now become a certified “dance workout craze”!  What makes Zumba so effective is that it utilizes High-Intensity Interval Training better known as HIIT.

“High-intensity interval training (HIIT) or sprint interval training is a training protocol that is intended to improve performance with short training sessions. HIIT is a form of cardio which is beneficial to burning fat in a short and intense workout. Usual HIIT sessions may vary from 15-30 minutes. Most HIIT sessions have a 2:1 ratio in terms of time. For example, for running, a HIIT session may be something as 60 seconds jog, 30 seconds sprint.” (Wikipedia)

In the Zumba dance workout you lose weight because each song is selected for its particular speed. So in the beginning of the class you will find yourself dancing to a slower pace song. Then as the class progresses the songs played have a faster beat – this is what creates the intensity.

So, Dancing makes it fun and High-Intensity Interval Training is what makes it SO effective!  The amazing thing is that it seems like the pounds just come off by themselves!

And, if like me, you may find that going to just one class per week is just not enough!  The classes are fun and fly-by very quickly, you feel great afterwards and the cost is really quite low!  So, I now go 2 or 3 times a week, I even fit in a Zumbathon or two!

Watch out – you too may be commenting here about your Zumba Addiction – find a class here!!  And, I’ll keep you posted with news of the descent to a size 12!!

LIVE Webinar! You live and learn :)

April 4, 2011

Have you ever presented LIVE across the t’internet?  Well I did last month and it was probably one of the scariest and weirdest things I have ever done!

Of course I was presenting from the comfort of my own home, to a web camera, but I was constantly aware that there were people across the UK watching my every move!  And I could see people joining and the “room” getting steadily busier!

It was pretty nerve-wracking if I’m honest, as most things new that you do are!  But when I watched it back it wasn’t particularly bad – and me being my worst critic would have told myself so too!

I’m by no means an expert, but if you have a LIVE webinar coming up and would like some advice then feel free to give me a shout.  They’re pretty easy to set up and I would be more than happy to let you know what I learned from the experience!

If you are interested in viewing the LIVE presentation, then you can do so here and I’d love to hear your views!  You live and learn and it’s not perfect, but it’s not the worst either – so leave a comment and let me know what you think! 🙂

The presentation describes all the benefits of What’s On 4 Me from a franchising perspective, so if that’s not your bag then just watch a little.  If it might be something that interests you, then who knows – this could be your first step to a new beginning!    As I said – you live and learn!!
