Donny Girls Do It On Chairs!

August 18, 2011

Stop the press! Burlesque Chair Dancing has finally come to Doncaster!!

What is Burlesque Chair Dancing?

Burlesque Chair Dance is a brand new form of dance fitness available to all ladies in the Doncaster area. A blend of burlesque, cabaret and modern dancing, the moves are cheeky & sexy and designed to boost confidence and self esteem in women whilst at the same time getting that essential weekly workout that we all dread!

Cleverly disguised within the routines as cheeky dance moves are a variety of resistance and toning exercises to build muscular strength and endurance and develop the cardiovascular system. The average lady can burn up to 500 calories per class whilst losing weight, having fun and making new friends.

Alongside our weekly classes we also have our Cabaret Team who perform our routines at local events, fundraisers and private parties. We support a local band Saint Harlot and have recently performed with them at a Harley Davidson rally. We also have our annual shows where all of our dancers perform routines for friends and families at a twice a year ticket only event. Every dancer has the opportunity to join our Cabaret Team at any time, but of course this is purely optional.

We regularly organise out of class activities for our members such as photo shoots, evenings out and organised events to promote the group. Many of our ladies have benefited highly from our range of services and below are just a few examples from some of our members;

  • Rosie joined the group in July 2010 suffering from acute anxiety and depression, to begin with even leaving the house and coming to one class a week was a challenge as meeting new people in a new environment was very stressful for her. Rosie took to class incredibly well and enjoyed herself and her new friends so much that she soon signed up to two classes a week. After six months she joined our Cabaret Team and began performing with us at a variety of shows, events and parties. Rosie is currently being trained up as an Assistant Instructor, she has started a part time college course and dropped a dress size. Rosie is now a confident, approachable and much more out-going lady who is also now looking forward to returning to the workplace in the near future – watch out employers here comes Rosie!
  • Kim was a size 22 and started coming to class with the pure intention of losing weight for her trip to Florida this year. She participated in all our classes alongside a healthy diet and left Manchester airport a size 14! Kim hates exercise but loves to chair dance, saying she doesn’t even class it as exercise its so much fun.
  • Dorothy is in her 50’s and a member of our Cabaret Team, she enjoys dressing up for photo shoots and performing at dance events – she tells her husband she’s at the garden centre!

We have been offering our cheeky workout for exactly one year now and have very quickly expanded from one to four classes a week across the Doncaster area.

Tuesday 7.30 – 8.30pm – Woodfield Social Club, Woodfield Road, Balby, DN4 8HL

Wednesday 6.30 – 7.30pm & 7.45 – 8.45pm Benefit Pole Fitness Studios, King Avenue, Rossington DN11 0PF

Thursday 7.15 – 8.15pm Bentley Pavilion, Askern Road, Bentley, DN5 0HU

We want to offer our classes to every woman in Doncaster, so if you are above the age of 16 and looking to add some excitement into your life come on down and join us. We dance barefoot and on a normal class night leggings and a t-shirt are just fine……………………fishnets are optional!

Anyone for Rocktails?!

August 9, 2011

Guest Blog by Diane Francis

Bristol & Somerset What’s On 4 Me

There is nothing we at What’s On 4 Me like more than sampling new products and letting you know what we think!! This month we were delighted to be invited to try Rocktails, the new cocktails that have been launched in Cardiff and Bristol this summer, before being rolled out to the rest of the UK later this year. So I rounded up a few girlfriends for a tasting session!

Rocktail range

Rocktails are available in three fruity flavours: Frostberry, Arctic Passion and Coolcumber. They are a fusion of refreshing fruits and vodka that have been expertly blended to create a spectacular frozen cocktail that looks and tastes amazing!

Frostberry flavour RocktailRocktails come in a handy double serve pouch, which you simply pop into the freezer and leave for around 4 hours, then take it out and leave at room temperature for 20 minutes, give it a squeeze to awaken the frost and then pour.

We were expecting a normal fruity vodka-based cocktail, but we were being unfair to Rocktails! Firstly the fabulous frost-effect you get on your glass makes these cocktails look as if they have been expertly mixed and served by your very own bartender. Then you taste them – refreshing, smooth, sophisticated, elegant – these are for discerning adults who know a thing or two about a decent cocktail! We spent the next hour debating the relative merits of the three flavours and trying to decide which was our favourite, which was, it turned out, an impossible task!

We are all now huge Rocktails fans and will be hot-footing it to those bars that have joined the Rocktails revolution! But fear not if you’re not near Bristol or Cardiff, Rocktails are available NOW to buy online throughout the UK!!

Have you tried out the new look Little Chef?

July 28, 2011

Bev O’Sullivan was recently asked to review her local Little Chef in Doncaster, which – along with many across the UK – has undergone a major makeover.

“I was amazed…! As I have only visited previously for the famous ‘Early Starter’ breakfast, I was yesterday treated to Suet Crust Steak & Ale Pie… What a transformation!”

“I went to the Little Chef in Doncaster at 6.30pm yesterday with my husband and 3 children (9, 5 & 2) and we thought it was fantastic.

We have only ever used Little Chef for breakfast in the past and we were very impressed with the new design – very clean and open, and it was lovely to see the cooks working.

The restaurant wasn’t very busy (only 2-3 other tables in use) and we were welcomed and shown to a booth immediately by Jacqui.  The children were given their menus and crayons and a drinks order was taken within a few minutes.

Jacqui came back to take our order after around 5-10 mins, she was very helpful and very chatty with the children.

The food arrived within around 15 mins and we had 5 completely finished plates!! I had the steak & ale pie – very tasty, and I make a mean one myself so this is high praise… My husband had the ‘hot pot of the day’, which was chicken and he thought it was delicious. My two boys (9 & 2) had the bangers and my daughter had the ‘slurpy spaghetti’. It’s always nice to see the children finish their meals.

They were rewarded with ice creams, which were probably a bit too big for the 2 youngest ones, but they had a good go at polishing them off! I had a classic pancake with lemon & sugar, which was a lovely treat.

The bill came to £45, which wasn’t too bad for a family of five including drinks and puddings. Yes, you can get slightly cheaper meals on the road, but we had 5 big portions and wouldn’t have  felt as full if we had had a Big Mac & Fries that’s for sure…

All in all, I would definately recommend Little Chef, the service was exceptional, the restaurant at Doncaster is well thought out and is quite a chilled place to eat overlooking the countryside (as it faces away from the A1), there is even a nice deck outside with tables & chairs for you to just stop and have a relaxing drink before continuing your journey.”

Party in the Park!! Making the most of your “Me Time”!

July 19, 2011

What’s On 4 Me Joined the Crowds in Peasedown St John to celebrate Party in the Park!!

Guest Blog by Diane Francis

Bristol & Somerset What’s On 4 Me

The community of Peasedown St John, near Bath in Somerset gathered to celebrate the third Party in the Park on Saturday 16 July 2011 which has been labelled as the biggest event in its calendar.

Party in the Park was launched in 2009 by Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis, who opened the event, and in that time has seen thousands of people flocking to Beacon field to enjoy live music, fete stalls and activities.

Despite the blustery, wet weather people turned out in force to support the community celebration, including 39 stall owners from organisations and charities across the area.

The event was set up by a group of residents who wanted to create a greater sense of community in the village. Residents who attended the festival said they felt this is what the event had really achieved.

Jo Drywood, who has recently set up her own craft business called Dolly Daydream from her home in the village, went to the event last year and was inspired to set up a stall this year. She said: “I saw how busy it was last year and there were lots of activities and a really good feel. I started doing my own stuff and thought it would be good for me to come along. I love it here and there is a really good atmosphere and lots of stalls. It brings people to the village and it brings lots of different people together.”

Saturday’s festival saw five bands performing on the stage in the Beacon Field including Midsomer Norton band BlackJakk and South West duo Metson. We also saw a fabulous display by a local majorette group and some Zumba-enthusiasts got everyone in the party mood!

Thousands of pounds were raised at last year’s event, which was attended by nearly 3,000 people but much more is expected to be raised from Saturday’s celebration. The majority of the money will go towards funding next year’s festival, but some has been set aside to be injected back into the community.

Doncaster is now one of numerous Cities and Towns in the UK that offer this chance to get fit, fitter and meet new people.  It is challenging, fun and it’s real life ALL MILITARY training!!

The Company is run by Jon Reynolds. He is a retired Army Captain and ex-Paratrooper with 6 years leadership experience. He has served overseas, most recently in Afghanistan and he hopes to share his experience and skills with the people of Doncaster.

Doncaster College for the Deaf holds your opportunity to shed the spare tyre effect, create a new you and feel more physically confident. Sessions run on Monday and Wednesday evening 7-8pm and Saturday morning 9-10 am. The Company also runs Women only training and Endurance events.

The session is lead by Ex-Military staff who are now qualified personal training instructors.  They promise to deliver results with their uncompromising military style!! The sessions are aimed at all abilities and participants will be put into a group that meets their fitness level. Taking place on the grass playing fields, the hour long outdoor session will incorporate abdominal, leg and arm exercises all punctuated by an amount of running.

Andy Peace from Analogue Electrical says: “Jon’s methods are brilliant and the constant change of routine throughout the weekly sessions has to be commended. Jon’s other instructors are all of a high quality and bring their own individual methods along which again is a great change from the normal treadmill bashing gym sessions.”

[Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing such as sweater, t-shirt, jogging bottoms/shorts, cross country running shoes and most importantly to bring a bottle of water (and a sense humour).]

Ever fancied Ghost Hunting? Read our latest review with Chris Conway from “Most Haunted”

June 7, 2011

Ghost Hunting at The Sheffield Fire and Police Museum

with Chris Conway (“Most Haunted” Medium)

28th May 2011

What a great time we all had investigating the creepy Fire and Police Museum in Sheffield last Saturday. We were joined by the loveable and charismatic former Most Haunted Medium Chris Conway who described the place as a one of those rare places that unnerved him from the moment he got to the top floor.

We started off with a group vigil in the main meeting room as the museum reported the activity had been mounting in this paticular room of late and instantly we picked up on a spirit child Sam who Chris had picked up on whilst doing our earlier walk around the building. There is a child spirit which has been witnessed on that floor many times. The spirit seemed to interact quite well via the K2 which was going all the way to red upon request. After a while we decided to split into our smaller groups and went our own way.

During a vigil in the police cells area we were all very excited to hear clear tapping in response to questions which it was claimed manifested from a spirit named Cain who inhabited the area. Chris picked up on as many as 3 other spirits who were trying to get in on the action. As we moved into the adjoining exhibits room the we all were having strange encounters, including being touched, cold spots, hair being played with, and one of our brave Ghost Hunters Sarah decided she would brave Cains cell alone while we all stayed in the exhibit room, we called out for something to affect Sarah and within minutes she came rushing back to the room claiming she had just heard an unexplained noise right behind her. Strangely enough we had all heard the noise she told us about in the adjoining room.

Another vigil being held on the top floor were also experiencing the same kind of things as the other groups including being touched, cold spots but the throughout the night eveyone commented on the negative feelings being felt on the top floor. Later on on the top floor one of our groups were having as some describe the “best ever table tipping ” they had ever seen when the table was up on 1 leg and spinning from one end of the dark creepy corridor to the other. At the same time a small group were in the firemans bedroom and were watching with disbelief a black shadow hovering in and out of the doorway which was later confirmed as a common sighting by Theresa and Jane who look after the museum.

One of our regulars Jo had to flee the top floor of the museum in floods of tears and she later commented that she had no idea what came over her she just felt the need to leave. Strange noises were being heard from all our groups on all 3 floors and the team all agreed that the night had been a huge success and they cannot wait to return to the museum on July 9th for yet another spooky encounter at this fab location.

Sincere thank Chris Conway, Theresa, Jane and Andy and all our fabulous ghost hunters for their open-minded approach and willingness to particpate to the full.

Chris Conway will be joining us for another investigation this Saturday, 11th June, at Doncaster’s Cusworth Hall – if you’d like to join us see here for more details

Create MORE “Me Time” – meet the Roomba…! (bang on trend for our What’s On 4 Me fans!)

May 11, 2011

Roomba by iRobot

What an absolute treat it was to review the Roomba by iRobot!

This certainly is a vaccum with a difference!! Yes…it made light work of the front  room…*yawn yawn*…yes it cleaned around all of the edges…*yawn yawn*…yes it tackled the tiles and hardwood floor…*yawn yawn*… Hmmmm – sounds just like any over vacuum….

HOWEVER… I watched this vacuum from the comfort of my own couch!!

*** See the full review and Marilyn’s video here ***

The Roomba even “magically knew” (obviously by some form of technology!) where the dirty areas were and zipped over to those pronto…!

It is so good that Kevin McCloud mentioned the Roomba in his presentation at Grand Designs at the weekend – So i’m not the only fan!!

I now NEED one  and everyone should have one, because not only does it DO THE WORK FOR YOU, you can even program it to vaccum on specific days and times, so your vacuuming will be done when you’re out!!

It’s the next best thing to having a cleaner and most definitely a product which genuinely gives you far more “Me Time”!

Well done iRobot – bang on trend for our What’s On 4 Me fans!

Marilyn 🙂
